Andrew McPherson’s Magnetic Resonator Piano features on “Field of Reeds”, the latest album by the band “These New Puritans”. The magnetic resonator piano is a hybrid acoustic-electronic instrument augmenting the traditional grand piano. Sound is produced without loudspeakers using electromagnetic actuators to directly manipulate the piano strings, expanding its vocabulary to include infinite sustain, notes that crescendo from silence, harmonics, and new timbres. Andrew’s piano has featured in several concerts, and on his own recording, “Secrets of Antikythera”. This is the first time the piano has featured on a recording outside the classical sphere.
