Opportunities

Our alumni are leaders, creators, educators, change-makers and our best ambassadors. No matter how much time you can commit, volunteering can make the world of difference to our Electronic Engineering and Computer Science students. Discover how you can get involved:

School curriculum

Want to inspire our future EECS graduates? We’re looking for alumni to return to Queen Mary to host a guest lecture or a 15-minute live employer takeover session as part of our School curriculum. By sharing your story and/or experiences, you will help inspire our current students, and provide ideas for the next step of their career.

Speaking at events

Throughout the year, we seek to provide as many opportunities as possible for our students to gain industry insights and for prospective students to get to know the School better and envision what it might be like to study with us. By volunteering as a panellist, you can help to inspire a new generation of ambitious students, build their awareness of the opportunities open to them once they graduate, and help them to understand what steps they can take whilst studying.

Women in Tech

There is a gender gap in the tech industry and we're hoping to help change this by launching an ongoing ‘Women in Tech’ series.  Our aim is to encourage more girls to consider tech subjects for their undergraduate degrees.  Get involved by volunteering to take part in our next outreach event, feature in our next Alumni and Friends Blog or take part in one of our social media campaigns via written and video testimonials.

Our next Girls into Tech - Alumni Event will take place on 8th December 2021 - 16.00 - 17.00.

Queen Mary gave me extensive teaching experience and teaching complex, technical ideas is a big part of my job at Amazon when communicating my findings and algorithms.
— Konstantinos Bozas (Electronic Engineering PhD, 2014)

Alumni video testimonial campaign

We are keen to capture video testimonials from School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science graduates, which touch upon your time and studies at Queen Mary and how your degree is relevant to your current role. These videos aim to encourage prospective students to study with us and to inspire current students and recent graduates.

Other ways you can help

  • Speaking at employability and recruitment events
  • eMentoring via the Queen Mary Network
  • Offering internships/work experience
  • CV support and mock interviews
  • Participating in our social media campaigns/taking over our Instagram for a day

We are extremely proud and thankful for the fantastic contribution our alumni make across the UK and globally and look forward to welcoming you as an Alumni Volunteer! If you are interested in taking part in any of the above opportunities, or if you would like to find out more, get in touch with our Alumni Engagement Manager, Phillip Davey at p.davey@qmul.ac.uk
