Profile

Dr Gadoue joined the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London in November 2021 as a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. 

Dr Shady Gadoue received the BSc (Hons) and MSc degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt and the PhD degree from Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK in 2009, in the area of Power Electronics and Control Systems. 

In 2011, he joined the Electrical Power Research Group at Newcastle University, as a Lecturer. In 2016, he was with the Power and Control Research group at Imperial College London as a full time visiting research scholar. In 2017, he joined the School of Engineering and Applied Science, Aston University, Birmingham, UK, as a Senior Lecturer.

He has authored and coauthored more than 70 articles in the area of control and identification algorithms of power electronic converters and motor drive systems. He has been listed as one of top 2% world scientists by Stanford University, in October 2020 and October 2021, in energy engineering. His research interests include control systems, power electronics, transport electrification, electric propulsion, energy systems, and the condition monitoring of batteries and energy storage devices for electric vehicles. 

 

Teaching

ECS662U-Electric and Hybrid Powertrain for Transport

This module covers fundamentals of hybrid and electric powertrain for transport applications including electrification and hybridization concepts and technological trends. The content progresses from core topics including principles of electric machines and power electronics for transport, battery energy storage systems through to modern concepts such as fuel cell technologies and further applications of electric powertrain in aerospace and marine vessels.

 

ECS532U-Power Systems Analysis

This module covers fundamentals of electrical power systems including power generation, transmission and distribution in addition to power systems analysis and calculations for balanced, unbalanced and fault conditions. The content progresses from core topics including single-phase and three-phase systems for electricity networks, transmission lines and cables, fault analysis, through to modern concepts such as renewable power generation, high voltage DC Transmission (HVDC), smart grids. In all cases, the link between the power system and power electronics, energy (grid) storage, control and communication systems is explored and emphasized.

Module Contents: The Electricity supply system, AC power analysis, power factor correction, three-phase systems (Balanced and unbalanced) , Transmission lines and cables, Power system calculations, , power systems fault analysis, power system control, high voltage DC (HVDC) and Flexible AC Transmission system (FACTS), introduction to modern smart grids.

Research

Research Interests:

Dr Gadoue has supervised and co-supervised 22 PhD students to completion in the UK. He has been listed as one of top 2% world scientists by Stanford University in Oct 2020 and Oct 2021 in Energy Engineering. His research interests include control systems design and real-time implementation and Power Electronics for Energy systems and electrical systems in transportation (Electrification and e-propulsion) applications. He also has special interest in optimisation algorithms applied to energy systems applications. 

Dr Gadoue is now accepting new PhD applications in areas of Energy systems engineering and renewable power generation, power electronics and their control systems, new technologies in electrical vehicles drives powertrain, condition monitoring of batteries and energy storage devices
