AI for Games

The idea of this project is to work on AI techniques - mainly Monte Carlo Tree Search and Rolling Horizon Evolution, but also Deep and other Machine Learning techniques - for complex games. Examples of these games are those with large action and state spaces, such as open sandbox games (i.e. Minecraft), Turn-based strategy games (i.e. Civilization, The Battle of Polytopia), modern board-games (i.e. from Settlers of Catan to Eldritch Horror or Battlestar Galactica) or wargames. These games are challenging because of their complexity but successful AI progress can improve them considerably and impact the games industry.
