Applications are invited for a full-time PhD Scholarship (three-year in duration) to undertake research in the area of function reconfigurable microwave circuits and antennas based around smart/tunable materials as part of the £7m DTSL funded Electromagnetic Environment Hub bringing leading groups and industrial partners working towards next generation and generation after next science and technology research and capacity building.

The studentship will be supervised by Dr James Kelly of the Antennas and Electromagnetics Group at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary, University of London. The successful PhD candidate will be a member of the Antennas and Electromagnetics Research group.

The studentship will involve the design and development of blocks of microwave hardware that can reconfigure their function (e.g. between filter and antenna). It will also involve research on advanced materials. It is likely that the successful PhD candidate will work in close collaboration with experts in chemistry and/or materials science.

Candidates should have a first or upper second-class honours degree or equivalent in any relevant area including Electronic and Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or Material Science. Candidates must be competent in spoken and written English. Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate the grit and resilience necessary to withstand the challenges of PhD study.

The studentship covers fees and provides a tax-free stipend of £19,668 per annum.

UK home students are preferred for this application.
