The aim of this module is to provide you with a basic understanding of the operation of the World Wide Web and teach you practical skills for programming the Web. You will gain hands-on experience with the use of web programming languages and technologies. You will also develop an understanding of the important programming concepts such as a markup language for text layout design and a scripting language.

By the end of this module you will have an understanding of:

  • Issues surrounding the technical development of web services
  • The ability to undertake basic programming using a range of common web languages
  • The programming concept of a markup language
  • The programming concept of a scripting language
  • The programming concept of event-driven computation
