ECS641U Communicating and Teaching Computing: the Undergraduate Ambassadors Scheme

This module is organised within the framework for the Undergraduate Ambassadors Scheme and provides students on Computer Science (and related) courses the chance to get experience of teaching computing / computer science in a school, working alongside an experienced teacher.

The placement takes place in Semester B for half a day every week. You are required to keep a reflective weekly log and to write a summary of this at the end of the placement. You will also complete a mini-project, developing and/or delivering a teaching resource; this work is described in a presentation and a report. Essential preparation and final selection (by interview) takes place in Semester A.

The aim of the UAS scheme and this module are to:
•    Provide transferable skills to undergraduates which will be invaluable after graduation
•    Provide teaching experience that encourages undergraduates to consider a career in teaching
•    Supply role models for pupils studying computing in schools
•    Give support to teachers, especially with the introduction of new curricula in Computing
•    Encourage the next generation to make an involve choice about Computer Science as a University subject and/or career.
