Why did you chose to study AI at Queen Mary University of London?

I graduated in Biomedical Engineering and decided I wanted to expand my knowledge in programming and machine learning.

I chose the MSc AI programme at Queen Mary University of London because of the different modules available to choose from, such as: natural language processing, computer vision, deep learning and visual data analysis. Personally, this was the best choice I could have made!

Coming from an engineering background and at the beginning of Term 1, I was scared my programming skills were not strong enough. Now, I feel I have gained valuable skills and knowledge with the help of the professors and teaching assistants that will surely help me for the next step in my career.

I have had the opportunity, not just to learn, but also to apply in different scenarios all the different material I have studied during the academic year. Moreover, I found the professors prepared and passionate about the most recent research in artificial intelligence, willing to help answering all the questions asked during and outside the teaching hours.

I would absolutely recommend the programme because of the extremely interesting modules, but also for the unique and diverse environment of the university and programme.

Future students do not be afraid of change! Be prepared to learn a lot, and always enjoy everything you do!

Why did you chose to study AI at Queen Mary University of London?

Prior to this programme, I was very fortunate to work as a data science engineer. However, what I could contribute was still limited given my background was not as specialised for the field. To consolidate and solidify my knowledge, I decided to apply and enrol to a postgraduate programme in Artificial Intelligence. Given my hands-on work experience in the industry, I had specific requirements which were to get a good understanding of the fundamentals and their application in NLP and computer vision. The MSc AI programme at Queen Mary University of London fitted these requirements.

I must say I really enjoyed the modules in Neural Networks and NLP as well as Artificial Intelligence in Games. Not only the professors were passionate about what they were teaching but also involved in research related to the content they taught. Furthermore, I have seen my research and coding skills improving greatly throughout this programme.

Going back to study after working for a few years is certainly not easy. To all prospective students with such background, I would suggest preparing mentally and emotionally to complete the programme, it will test your endurance. I also suggest to focus on learning and improving throughout the programme. I would also suggest finding other students to work with for each module you enrol in, as they can help with your understanding of the material, as well as enjoy the programme much better.

To all prospective students who feel underrepresented in the field of AI, please apply as your perspective, experience and your way of thinking is different and needed such that AI-based applications can truly benefit the many facades of society.
