ECS709P/ECS709U Introduction to Computer Vision

Module code: ECS709P/ECS709U

Credits: 15
Semester: SEM1

Computer vision has made significant progress in recent years. This is largely driven by the recognition that effective visual perception is crucial in understanding images, videos and the environment surrounding an intelligent agent (e.g a robot, a self-driving car, an access control system recognising your face or palm print, or your iPhone). The course will introduce you to the relevant concepts and techniques in computer vision, image processing and pattern recognition.

The module aims to:
•    give an updated account of both established and ongoing research in computer vision. Applications in human face, gesture and visual behaviour recognition will be used to illustrate the workings in some of the state-of-the-art machine vision and imaging systems.
